Abstract project
Despite the demonstrated benefits of early palliative care, patients with hematological cancer often receive it late. Current research and palliative care models primarily address solid tumors, leaving a gap in tailored approaches for hematological cancers. We therefore developed a novel early palliative care model specifically designed for patients with hematological cancer in part 1 of the HePaC project (September 2022 - March 2025).
The current implementation study forms Part 2 of the HePaC project and aims to evaluate the model’s adoptability, feasibility, and sustainability in clinical practice, while also assessing its impact on care satisfaction among patients and informal caregivers, and on healthcare professionals’ self-efficacy in providing palliative care.
The HePaC model is being implemented across three Belgian hospitals and evaluated using the RE-AIM framework. A mixed-methods approach will be used to assess the implementation process and outcomes, combining qualitative data from interviews and focus groups with quantitative data from pre–post surveys among healthcare professionals, patients, and informal caregivers.
