The EAPC Reference Group on Public Health and Palliative Care is happy to invite you to their Open Meeting at the 19th World Congress of the European Association for Palliative Care in Helsinki, Finland!
The meeting will take place on Friday 30 May 2025 8:00-8:45 am and is open to all attendees of the conference.
During our previous Open Meeting at the Rotterdam conference in 2023, many of us present expressed a strong wish to connect with others in our field. We wanted to learn more about what everyone is working on across the spectrum of public health palliative care related work, from practice to policy, from advocacy to research. To continue building our public health community this year, we therefore want to involve our reference group members even more actively using a Pecha Kucha format.
Pecha Kucha format
PechaKucha (from the Japanese word for chit-chat: ぺちゃくちゃ) is a storytelling format in which presenters show 20 images for 20 seconds of commentary each. The format was developed by Klein-Dytham Architecture in Tokyo in 2003, originating from a desire to “talk less, show more.” It is a creative storytelling format that allows miscellaneous contributions to be shared with an audience, where traditional conference presentations often tend towards overly formal, technical and research presentations. Through the format of PechaKucha, we aim to capture the diversity of practice, policy, advocacy and research within public health and palliative. We hope to facilitate connections through personal stories about activities and enable sharing and dissemination of these activities.
Learning objectives of the Open Meeting
After attending this meeting, participants will:
- have an understanding of the range of work that is happening in different countries and is relevant to Public Health and Palliative Care (including action, ascertainment, and assessment),
- have gotten to know a diversity of people working in the broader field of Public Health Palliative Care (beyond the known faces of the reference group) ,
- have forged new connections with each other.
Call for submissions!
Are you interested in sharing your story at the meeting? Don’t hesitate to submit your story by sending us the following:
- A brief title,
- Authors and their affiliations (with an indication of who will be the presenter),
- 2 images that fit your story,
- Rough storyline of 2-5 sentences,
- Your permission or refusal for your submission to be shared with the other participants after the Open Meeting.
We will strive to provide a balanced set of 5 presentations, ensuring stories from practice, policy, research, and anything in between or beyond are represented from the submissions.
All PechaKucha presentations for which permission is given, will be collated in an ‘inspiration document’, shared with all members of the Public Health Reference Group, hosted on the website as an e-resource and shared on social media. We hope to see you there!
