Msc Nursing and Midwifery- Researcher in Care and Health Science

Nina obtained a Master’s degree in Nursing and Midwifery in 2025, specialising in Research in Care and Health Science. Her master’s thesis explored the lived experiences of people with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) within Oyster Care, a palliative care approach in psychiatric settings, and received the award for best master’s thesis.
During her master’s studies, Nina worked for three years as a researcher at the SUPRB research centre (HOGENT), focusing on substance use among vulnerable populations, including young people and people in detention.
Her doctoral research is embedded in the FWO-SBO PIP (Peer Support Innovating Prisons) project, which examines how peer support in prisons can contribute to reintegration and desistance from crime. Within this project, Nina focuses on needs related to serious illness, dying and bereavement in prison settings.
