It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to our esteemed colleague, Emeritus Professor Jan Bernheim, who died on 28 December 2025.
Jan Bernheim was an oncologist, medical ethicist, and a pioneer in the field of palliative care. He conducted groundbreaking research on quality of life, patient communication, medical aid in dying and palliative care. After his formal retirement in 2006 he continued to be an active member, intellectual contributor and joy-bringer for the End-of-Life Care Research Group until his death.
We will deeply miss his wit, wisdom, warmth and humour. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
